11 Things You Should Never Put in the Back of a Moving Truck

So, the moving truck is coming tomorrow, and you are finishing packing plus labeling the last few boxes. Have you made a list of the things that you need to carry that do not belong on the moving truck? A good idea is to pack these items to stay with you:

1) Medications and First Aid Items

When using a moving company to transport your stuff long distance, a time schedule is more of a suggestion than a fact. Delays can happen. By keeping your medications and first aid products with you, the serious problem of being without what you need can be avoided.

2) Cell Phones, Cameras, and Computers (Including Chargers)

These items are fragile as well as relatively small. It is not a good idea to put them in a situation where they could be dropped. Even a desktop computer should be kept with you, so plan for some storage room in your vehicle.

3) Food Items

Since a delay with the moving truck arriving is possible, keep the food items with you. Packing anything perishable on a moving truck is not a sound plan. Discard food that will not stay fresh during the move.

4) Hazardous Materials

Be sure to remove any gas from your lawn mower or other small engines before they go on the truck. Be aware this also includes perfumes, nail polish remover, paint, and solvents that may explode or damage your item or the movers.

5) Disposable Dinnerware

If you have picnic supplies, keep them close. It could take a few days to get unpacked, so these items may prove very useful. Paper products such as paper towels and napkins, plastic eating utensils, cups, and garbage bags may become very handy when on the move.

6) Pet Food And Supplies

Your pet is a part of the family, so having their stuff with you will help ease the stress of moving. This is not a time to introduce them to unfamiliar food or bedding. A new toy is allowable.

7) Unpacking Tools

A utility knife, scissors, packing tape, markers, large trash bags, a flashlight, and batteries are just a few items you may want to have with you when arriving at the new destination. Keeping the toolbox near is also a good idea.

8) Pack A Personal Bag For Each Family Member

Think of it like packing for a few days’ vacation. A few days change of clothes, toiletries, hairdryer, a couple of pairs of shoes, and some jewelry may make all the difference in your transition.

9) Bathroom Supplies

It is a good idea to have handy a shower curtain, toilet paper, soap, a few towels, and shampoo. If you get there before the truck, there will not be a problem getting refreshed.

10) Valuables

Jewelry, personal documents, guns, money, and anything else you consider an item that would be difficult to replace, that someone could easily steal or damage should not be on the truck.

11) The Three C’s

A Cooler, Champagne, and A Corkscrew. ‘Nuff said!
